To help keep the community informed, this page is updated regularly with important project developments. (For specific details about events, meetings and other activities, visit the Get Involved page.)
Board approval of Final PEIR and general alignment: At the March 7 board meeting, the Connector project took a critical step forward, as the board voted to adopt the proposed general alignment and certify the Revised Final Program Environmental Impact Report (PEIR). These decisions have moved the project into an exciting new phase of development.
Jurisdictions’ adoption of general alignment: Throughout 2012, the member agencies’ staff are bringing the JPA-approved alignment to their respective governing bodies for review and adoption. This is occurring during a series of meetings and hearings in each city and county. Please check the Get Involved page as these meetings continue to be scheduled.
Connector in the community: Connector staff continue to conduct outreach in the member communities. Please keep your eye on the Get Involved page for opportunities to learn more about the Connector, including city council and board of supervisors meetings, community group and neighborhood meetings, special events and other activities. The public is also encouraged to attend the regular Connector Board Meetings. If your group would like a presentation about the Connector, visit the Get Involved page for more details.
Adding it all up: Connector staff are working with specialists on two separate but equally important number-crunching exercises. One is an evaluation of innovative financing strategies to identify viable funding options for constructing the Connector. The other is a robust economic analysis to help quantify the many benefits of building the project, such as job creation. Check back on these pages for more details about these efforts as they progress.
Future environmental review: While the program-level environmental clearance for the proposed alignment was a major milestone, it should be noted that more specific project-level environmental documents will need to be completed for different segments of the project prior to construction. This additional review will allow for more detailed study of environmental issues, as well as more opportunities for public input.
